Supporters grumble over club takeovers

The recent takeover of Premier League clubs by business magnates has not come without any grumbles. While it is considered a noble idea considering the fact that the clubs have been wallowing in financial doldrums for a long time, some quarters, supporters in particular, do not see it that way.

Already some sections of Township Rollers and BMC FC supporters have expressed alarm at the way their clubs have been transferred to new owners. The common complaint across the spectrum is that 'their' club is being taken away from them without their full approval and against their wishes.

Decisions to privatise clubs are often taken at annual general meetings (AGMs), a decision-making platform where all stakeholders, supporters included, are present. While most of the Premier League clubs have been registered as societies (and therefore considered owned by the society or supporters), they become registered companies once privatised.
