FRANCISTOWN: The usually quiet Francistown golf course will be a beehive of activities tomorrow when golfers fight for supremacy in the 2009 First National Bank Northern Open. The winner of the men-only two-day 36-hole event will be determined by the gross score.

Botswana Golf Union (BGU) secretary general, Mpho Kelosiwang said that defending champion, Diane Lucas, Phenyo Lekgoa, Shane Granger and Charlton Makoko are among the favourites. "In fact, most of the national team players will be competing in the tournament," said Kelosiwang who will also be in action.

The players will be divided into A and B Divisions. The A Division is for those with a handicap of 0-9 and B Division is for 10-24 handicap. Kelosiwang said the Northern Open has proved to be popular and this year will be no exception. "Over 50 participants from within and outside Botswana are expected to take part in the tournament this year," he said.
