The organisers of Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon, PGM Foundation donated P430,000 to five charities at a ceremony yesterday.

The donation was made to Botswana Substance Abuse Support Network (BOSASNet), Camphill Community Trust, Lady Khama Charitable Trust, Bana ba Metsi School and Stepping Stones International from the proceeds of the race. The chairperson of PGM Foundation, Thola Magang explained that a committee selects the charities that benefit from the proceeds. He said that last year, the beneficiaries were each given P40,000, but that figure has now doubled, with every beneficiary pocketing P86,000.

He said that the marathon has been growing since it was established in 2009 both in the number of athletes and quality. He said there are many people in Botswana who have a passion for running and the aim of PGM Foundation is to encourage physical fitness in the country.
