Standard Chartered Bank pours money into golf event

Standard Chartered Bank has increased its sponsorship for this year's Independence Golf tournament from 60,000 to 200,000. The bank has been associated with the event since independence in 1966.

Botswana Golf Union (BGU) secretary general, Ben Tobedza said this year's sponsorship details are still being worked out and they intend to organise an improved and better tournament. The event is expected to attract over 200 foreign and local golfers.

Tobedza said the improved package from the sponsors will go a long way in branding the tournament which has become the flagship event in the BGU calendar over the decades.
He said that over the years, the sponsorship has been more than the amount written on the cheque. "The bank traditionally buys t-shirts and caps besides financing the party that is usually staged on the night before the tournament.
