Stanchart boosts Under-23

The national Under-23 side received a major morale-booster ahead of tonight's Olympic qualifier against Tunisia when it got a P30,000 cash incentive from Standard Chartered Bank.

The Young Zebras meet their Tunisian counterparts in the second leg after playing to a goalless draw last month. Each player and official of the 25-member team will get at least P1,000 each. This leaves P5,000 to be shared by three players who will excel in tonight's game. Acting Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered, Rosemary Yeboah, told Mmegi Sport that after the Young Zebras' recent good performances, they decided to raise the players' morale to new heights with the donation. She said that at Standard Chartered, they believe in hard work and the Young Zebras have shown that they can develop if they are given support.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) president Phillip Makgalemele thanked the bank for the support. He said it will help the players to perform to the best of their abilities. "We decided that the P5,000 be shared among the best three players on the day. We didn't want to give it to the top goalscorer because there is a possibility of some players becoming selfish," said Makgalemele. He announced that they have agreed in principle with the bank to sponsor the two-legs of the All Africa Games qualifier against South Africa. The Young Zebras visit Amaglug-glug for the first leg on March 31 with the return leg scheduled for Gaborone on April 14. Makgalemele said that the Acting President, Ian Khama, has raised P50,000 which will be shared by both the senior team and Under-23.
