Stakeholders fault knock-out softball

Vikings chairperson Judith Shongwe has defended the knock-out system used in the just concluded Oseg-AP Mokoto Diamond Softball Classic tournament. Despite criticism from coaches who preferred a round-robin system, Shongwe said that the knock-out format was the best for the tournament because there is too much laxity in softball.

She asserted that the knock-out system instills urgency in games. Shongwe did not agree with people who said the system does not give good teams enough competition to prove themselves. "A game of softball is not about stamina. If you are big, you should show it from the onset," she said.

Shongwe was reacting to complaints from coaches and players who said the knock-out system gives a team only chance to make it to the next level.
