Stage set for Lobatse golf open

The stage is set for the Lobatse Open golf tournament this weekend with over 60 players already registered for the two-day event.

"This is an open tournament which means everyone is welcome, locals and foreigners and there are no quotas. We are trying to keep the competitive spirit among the players especially the locals. It will also help us to prepare our order of merit," Ramatebele said. He added that the monthly tournaments help BGU to select players for both the junior and senior teams. "It is still in the same spirit of taking this game to various parts of the country," he said. The Lobatse tournament will be divided into two divisions - A and B. Due to the smaller size of the Lobatse course there would be no championship division.
The Lobatse Open will be followed by the Mowana Open in Kasane next weekend. Ramatebele disclosed that Cresta has already offered some sponsorship and BGU is still in negotiations with other financiers. He said that the Mowana tournament is aimed at promoting tourism while at the same time making the sport accessible to people in Kasane.
"We will be working in partnership with various stakeholders in the tourism industry because we believe that golf can help a lot in promoting our tourism while at the same time benefiting from the same industry," he said.
