SSKB stadium renovations on course

The tendering process for the renovation of the Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB) soccer stadium is at an advanced stage, Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) executive secretary Kagiso Kemoeng has confirmed.

In an exclusive interview with Mmegi Sport, Kemoeng revealed that potential bidders have been taken to the site to inspect the place. He said they expected to have identified one company almost immediately because "we expect the company to start the job on July 1".

Top of the renovation plan is the re-grassing of the pitch. The embarrassment the country suffered after a company re-grassing the UB stadium dumped the job along the way was a huge lesson and that everything will be done to avoid repetition, Kemoeng said. He said they would have a technical committee to keep an eye on the company as soon as it starts work. It is anticipated that the contractor would hand over the SSKB stadium to the council by August. "It is our hope that the job will be complete by then," Kemoeng said. He added that they would only have a full understanding of how the job will go after the contractor has explained everything to them.
