Sports Officials Graduate After Five-Day Course

Officials from different sports codes graduated on Friday after a five-day leadership and management course organised by the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC). The course was conducted by the Institute of Development Management (IDM).

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the BNSC marketing and communications manager, Chris Nkwe said it was important that sports leaders attend such courses to improve the administration of their codes. "You are responsible for people's lives, you handle public money and you can only make it happen when you have skills," he said. He added that running such courses is one of the many ways in which they strive to improve sport. He thanked the officials for finding time in their busy schedules to attend the course. "It is encouraging to see you having come in large numbers. I hope we will see improvement in the way you have been running things from here because if not, then your five-day stay here will be useless," Nkwe said.   IDM country director, Faith Tombale expressed hope that their relationship with BNSC will not end after the course. She assured the BNSC that their doors are always ready to train sports officials.  Botswana Netball Association (BONA) vice president Nelson Montsho challenged BNSC to always invite a significant number of officials from each code for such courses. He said training one official only is a challenge because it is not easy to implement what they learnt due to resistance from their codes. "It is not always easy for our colleagues to accept the changes that we want to make after being trained," Montsho said. He said that the training brought together officials from different codes and was educative as they got to interact with each other.
