Sports Complex construction starts next month

Head of Facilities and Development in the Department of Sports and Recreation (DSR) Kesholofetse Phetlho has confirmed that the construction of the much-awaited Francistown Sports Complex will finally start next month.

She told Mmegi Sport that all the pre-contract activities have been completed. Though the site for construction would be given to the contractor today, the official groundbreaking ceremony would be done around March 17, she said. Chinese company, Tuana Construction Company, has been awarded the tender for the 27, 000-seat stadium located at Gerald Estate behind the airport. Phetlho expressed hope that the construction would start as planned after the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Moeng Pheto, officially performed the groundbreaking ceremony. "All I can say is that the project has begun and we expect everything to go as planned," she said. She indicated that after commissioning by all relevant departments, which was done last Wednesday, the constructor would be given enough time to mobilise.

She pointed out that the facility would be constructed in phases because her department is not able to secure enough funding for the entire project at once.
