Southern teams dominate swimming Gala

FRANCISTOWN: Southern schools teams dominated the 2011 swimming Gala that took place in Francistown over the weekend.

The event sponsored by Stanbic Bank for P20, 000 for the sixth time, saw the southern teams setting new records in the  U-8, U-11, and U-13 categories. Andile Bekker from Thornhill and Lillian Ricco from Northside school scooped the free-style record while Danita Blockker from Northside  was also crowned the champion in the U-11   free-style category. The U-13 national team swimmers Martin Du Toit and Saskia Duke also proved why they are included in the national swimming squad.

Du Toit broke the record in 50 metres backstroke ending the race in 33sec. 36. In a rare show of  mettle by the northern schools, Juan Milne of Matshwane school in Maun impressed as he broke three records in the U-11's.
