National softball teams left for Harare, Zimbabwe yesterday to take part in the Zone VI competition.

The competition was initially scheduled for September 24 to 25 but was moved to October 16 to 17 before it was brought back to the initial date. The Botswana Softball Association (BSA) president Marumo Morule said although the decision to hold the event on the original date was made at short notice, it is a blessing in disguise. He said when they first agreed to the October date, they were not aware that it will coincide with the country's general elections. He said the new decision has helped the association as Botswana players and officials will be able to cast their votes. He said the changes have not affected their preparations but they have to revise their budget.

It was not clear which countries will participate in the event, as some have a tendency of pulling out at the last minute. Five countries, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana Lesotho and Zambia are expected to take part in the two-day competition.
