Batlokwa deputy chief, Michael 'Spokes' Gaborone has given the annual Katse Investments Independence Charity Cup the thumbs-up saying it will help the youth in Tlokweng.

He told Monitor Sport that the tournament will help in bringing the youth together and help the less privileged. Gate-takings from the P20,000 tournament were donated to a charity organisation. "There are so many things we want to do in the village and such tournaments can help. The problem is that the notice was short," Gaborone said. The Batlokwa deputy chief added that in future, they would improve the VDC Ground in Tlokweng to serve the community better.

The managing director of Katse Investments, Elijah Katse said that his company came up with the idea of sponsoring the tournament after realising that there was nothing much to keep villagers busy during the holidays. "Every year, there were games but teams were not gaining much. So we thought it would be nice to increase the prize-money and our intention is to host this tournament annually," he said. Katse said that for them to continue sponsoring the event, they have to get support from all clubs and the community. He appreciated the support they have received from the Batlokwa chieftainship. He said the royal family has been with them throughout. "We did not get more people at the games because they were away. As you are aware, when the Zebras play these days, it is difficult to get people. This time around, it was made worse by the fact that they were playing South Africa," said Katse.
