Soccer Spectacular Planned For Bakgatla Coronation

The organising committee for the coronation of Bakgatla paramount chief, Kgafela Kgafela, plans a one-day soccer spectacular at the National Stadium on Saturday to raise funds.

The tournament will feature four clubs, Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Gaborone United, Township Rollers and Extension Gunners. At a press conference at the Gaborone Sun on Friday, the chairman of Kgosi Kgolo Kgafela Kgafela coronation committee, McClean Letshwiti, said that the installation of a chief is a big event in Botswana and it needs a lot of money to run successfully. Bakgatla are expecting thousands of people to grace the occasion from the country and abroad.

"We decided to organise a football tournament and we appreciate that clubs have accepted the invitations. We settled for the four clubs as we believe that they command a lot of support," Letshwiti said. He added that though they have not found a sponsor for the tournament, they are hopeful that something will come up this week. He appealed to the football community to come and support the clubs before going for the Presidents' Day holidays. The champions are expected to go home with P30,000 while the runners-up will pocket P15,000.
