Team Botswana had a slow start at the third edition of the Africa Youth Games (AYG) in Algiers, Algeria. By yesterday, Botswana had three bronze medals from weightlifting.

Magdelene Moyengwa won the medals in the 58kg category. Weightlifting coach, Alex Rankgwe said it is a big achievement for Moyengwa. He said he has been training her for the past three years.

“We only trained during the weekends because she stays in Mogoditshane and it was difficult for her to attend training at the National
Stadium after school.  She is excited and looking forward to the Youth Olympics,” he said.
