After watching Nijel Amos’ shock exit and Baboloki Thebe withdrew from the Olympics with an injury, Karabo Sibanda provided the timely relief when he powered into the finals of the 400m, which were held early this morning (3am).

The 18-year-old Sibanda qualified for the finals with an impressive run of 44.47, which is his personal best as he finished third in his semi final. He will be the youngest competitor in the final where he faces world champion, Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa, Lashawn Merritt of the U.S and Granada’s James Kirani as his real threat for a medal prospect.

By reaching the finals, Sibanda has already surpassed expectations and is assured of P75,000 from Choppies.
