New athletics pinup boy, Karabo Sibanda was involved in a world record breaking 400m race where he finished fifth and set a new personal best of 44:25 at the ongoing Rio Olympics yesterday morning.

The feat means Sibanda is now the second fastest Under-20 runner in the world behind Baboloki Thebe with a time of 44:22.

The 18-year-old Sibanda was pitted against the world’s fastest 400m runner, Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa who broke a 17-year-old record when he clocked 43:03. He beat American, Michael Johnson’s record of 43:18 set in 1999.
