Shell Oil rescues softball situation

After initial doubts, the softball end-of-year annual championships will finally kick off at the National Diamond in Gaborone this weekend. Doubts that the tournament might not take place arose when the initial sponsors pulled out at the eleventh hour.

He said the initial sponsor pulled out, citing financial constraints. Four women's and four men's teams will be battling it out for top honours. In the women's category-Bears, Wells, Police IX and Vikings will lock horns while in the men's category BDF IX is pitted against Blue Angels, and Paper Club against Gatalamotho.

 
Meanwhile, Maforaga said the 'Ipelegeng' league has been a success. He said since it was a new concept, it was also a learning curve for the softball family. The BSA introduced the Ipelegeng league this year after all efforts to get sponsors failed. In the new league, teams contributed money for the running of the league. Maforaga said teams showed a lot of commitment and accountability to the league. He said some teams volunteered to play away when they were supposed to host because their opponents could not afford travelling expenses.
