Selebi-Phikwe hosts Morongwa chess tourney

Selebi-Phikwe hosts the Morongwa Security Chess Tournament with entries from senior secondary schools across the country. The tournament, organised by the Botswana Chess Federation (BCF), is sponsored to the tune of P25, 000.

BCF secretary general, Kelapile Kelatlhilwe said the top 30 players from junior school students' tournament that was held in Serowe would play against their seniors.The aim of the tournament is to develop and further strengthen chess in schools. Kelatlhilwe said they also want to pick a squad for the Africa Junior and Africa Youth competitions.  Kelatlhilwe added that the top 15 players at the end of the competition would receive a chess board set.   The top player will receive a medal, chess clock, demonstration board and chess set, while second placed will get a chess clock and chess set. The second runner-up will receive a medal and two chess sets. Kelatlhilwe said their calendar is such that tournaments for both juniors and senior secondary schools are held simultaneously.The next event will be the Junior Teams Tournament in Mahalapye next weekend.
