Sekotswe's title bout postponed

The eagerly awaited World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior bantamweight title fight between Botswana's Lesley Sekotswe and Chilean Miguel Gonzalez has been postponed indefinitely.

Promoter, Thuso Khubamang of Scud Missile Promotions confirmed to Mmegi Sport in an interview yesterday that they had to push the fight from its scheduled date of May 25 so that they can source enough funds for the fight. He said they realised that the initial date was too early and could not raise enough money to meet the budget.

Khubamang said they have engaged a local marketing company to market the fight again with a view of attracting more sponsors. He said the budget for the bout was over P1 million and it was a challenge for them to raise the amount without sponsors. The other thing that has contributed to the postponement is that the promoter is still negotiating with some television stations to buy broadcasting rights to air the fight live.
