On Saturday, the company, in partnership with Cats Holdings held a fun filled promotional event at the Game City mall open space in front of Nandos restaurant. Sekotswe fights Chilean boxer, Miguel Gonzalez for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Junior Bantamweight Title in May. Sekotswe,who is currently a pan- Africa champion, interacted with his fans through open soft sparring sessions, signing of autographs and giving away some promotional merchandise. Kids were also taught some simple boxing basics by development coach Bond Ngubula and also did some sparring. An exhibition bout of women pro-boxers also caught the attention of fans that came in impressive numbers.
Thuso 'Scud' Khubamang says it is essential to start promoting the event earlier because it is rare for Botswana to host an event of this magnitude. It would be the first time the country hosts a world title fight. Khubamang, a former professional boxer himself said they are following international promotional trends in the build up to the fight. He said they will do similar events countrywide covering places like Phikwe, Francistown and Maun as a way of taking professional boxing to Batswana. He said the event also gives other youth an opportunity to showcase their skills in their area of interest, being either sport or entertainment. Several artists among them DJ Fondo Fire and motswako artist, Noello of the 100 percent mixtape fame are part of the promotion and peformed at Game City on Saturday.
