Sedimo praises ANOCA team

Director of Department of Sports and Recreation, Falcon Sedimo, has hailed the performance of the Botswana team that took part in the Association of National Olympic Committee (ANOCA) Zone Six Under-18 games in Maseru, Lesotho.

Sedimo said he is proud that the team did well despite having little time to prepare because of late notification. "We are encouraged by the determination and resilience exhibited by members of the Botswana team," he said. He encouraged the Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) to keep up the good work of identifying and nurturing upcoming athletes for the benefit of the country.
Sedimo said that he is confident that BNOC and stakeholders will put in place measures to ensure that the youngsters continue with their careers in sport.
He added that it is gratifying to learn that BNOC intends to send a team for the first time to the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India, next year. "I encourage all the athletes gathered here not to relax and bask in the glory of the ANOCA games but to make a commitment to train even harder so that they can qualify for the Commonwealth Youth Games," he said on Monday upon the team's arrival.
The ANOCA tournament included boxing, football, tennis and athletics. It took place from April 4-9. The Botswana team collected six gold medals all from athletics, eight silver and five bronze. In addition, the athletics team brought home six silver and four bronze. Boxing team won one gold and one silver while tennis and football brought home one bronze and one silver respectively.
Team manager, Batshidi Tsae, concurred with Sedimo that the team performed exceptionally well considering the short period of time they had to prepare for the games.
He said that it is good to see each of the sporting codes that went to Lesotho winning medals.
