Schools rugby league enters quarter-finals

The Powerade Senior Secondary Schools Rugby League reaches the quarter-final stage this weekend with eight schools expected to battle it out at the Francistown Rugby Club.

The league started in May with 12 schools. The quarters will be contested by Shashe, Maru-A-Pula, Maun, Molefi, Ledumang, Mater-Spei College, Livingstone Kolobeng College and Selebi-Phikwe.

Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) development manager, Zilwele Khumalo said there is a lot of improvement in schools rugby. He said some players have been in the game for four years and it is evident that their standards have gone up. "These players have been part of our development programme ever since they were in junior school. Schools that have made it to the quarter-finals have proven themselves to be the best in the country. I believe that the competition this weekend will be tough as all the teams are of equal strength," he said.
