Santos Register Another Victory

Uniao Flamengo Santos maintained their winning ways when they narrowly beat visiting TAFIC 2-1 in a Mascom Premier League encounter at the Lobatse Stadium on Saturday.

As has been the case in recent matches, the visitors' defence was pathetic. TAFIC got off to a flying start when captain Tamocha Bedi shot them into the lead in the 13th minute after capitalsing on Khumo Motlhabane's blunder. The Zebras' defender tried to head back to goalkeeper Raphael Nthwane but a lurking Bedi, intercepted the ball and flashed it home. However, TAFIC supporters did not celebrate the goal for a long time as Seabo 'Magesh' Gabanakgosi equalised with a superb diving header. The towering defender was left unmarked in the box and did not disappoint as he buried Innocent Ranku's beautiful freekick with ease.

Santos gained confidence as they attacked their opponents from all angles but Botlhe 'Ringo' Rankgomo was unlucky in the 24th minute when his effort came off the upright with TAFIC goalkeeper Tebo Thokweng stranded between the posts. Santos continued to raid their opponents' half and were unfortunate not to have been awarded a penalty in the 37th minute after TAFIC defender Ishmael Mosetlha handled inside the box. Seconds later, TAFIC star striker Mohammed Chawila saw his header sail off the crossbar after a good cross from the left. On Saturday, Chawila mesmerised the Santos' defence with his silky skills and was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet. Though Chawila was the best player for TAFIC, he was surprisingly substituted in the 84th minute, something which some supporters protested.
