Santos hire Zimbabwean tactician

Mascom Premier League side, Flamengo Santos has appointed Zimbabwean Raphael Phiri as coach after the departure of Clever Hunda and his assistant Pio Paul. Phiri said he coached a Zimbabwean team, Effiel Flats which used to campaign in the Premier League.

 Santos' manager Super Keatlaretse said they wanted a coach who would come with new ideas and who is not used to the local soccer scene. Phiri has been drilling Santos' players in preparation for the league season which kicks off next month. 

He said his ambition as a coach is to do well. "You want to be successful as a coach," he said. He is impressed with the material that he found at Santos. He said the youngsters under him are going to do well, though he does not know much about local football. Santos have signed Raphael Nthwane, Godfrey Ngele, Boitshoko Zikhale, Botlhe Rankgomo, Botlhe Moralo and veteran defender Seabo Gabanakgosi. Shoes Motlhabane who has been out due to injury is also back in training.
