South African Premier League clubs have refused to release Zebras' players for the COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup scheduled to start in Zimbabwe this weekend. Zebras' coach, Stanley Tshosane said that they had written letters to both Orlando Pirates and Cape Town Santos to release the players, but the clubs declined.

He said they wanted South African-based Phenyo Mongala, Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Boitumelo Mafoko in the team, but this has not been possible because their clubs refused to release them.

This is despite the fact that all the three players are struggling to break into the first team at their respective clubs. Mongala had a brilliant pre-season at Pirates, but since then, he has found the going tough, as he has to compete with the crowd favourite, Teko Modise. Ramatlhakwana picked up a long-term injury last season at Cape Town Santos.
