Ryushin-kan launched in Francistown

FRANCISTOWN: The Ryushin-kan karate style was launched in Francistown where hundreds of young karatekas from schools and clubs around the country had converged.

The style has been operating in Gaborone for the past years under the leadership of one of Botswana's karate gurus, Sensei Andrew Dobolo, but his friend and sparring mate, Sensei Tom Keoagile brought it to Francistown at the beginning of this year.Other karate styles found in Botswana include Shukokai, which used to have Soccer Moruakgomo as leader, Shityo-ryu/kofukan under Million Masumbika, Shotokan under Mpho Bakwadi, Haya-shiha and Oikado which children from Masunga competed under.

Schools and clubs represented at the tournament, which began at 8am until late on Saturday, were Moremogolo Primary School in Francistown, Selepa Junior Secondary School, Francistown Senior Secondary School, Mater Spei College and Thebe Karate Club from Area S.There was also Babusi Primary School and Kobojango teams A and B in the tournament whose sponsors were a Francistown-based graphic designing company, Golden Brands and Sensei Odumetse, a veteran karateka from Tonota village.
