Rugby secretary warns president, vice president

The Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) saga has taken another twist with the Secretary General Oupa Pandor warning both the president Dave Gilbert and his vice Bob Lekan to stop dragging the union's name in the mud.

He cautioned the two not to use the union name to address their personal differences in the media. This follows media reports that the two are at loggerheads as Lekan accuses Gilbert of working in cahoots with his son Gareth to bring him down. He accused them of using dirty tactics to de-campaign him. Lekan also alleged that Gilbert seemed to have personal differences with him, as their relationship has always been a fragile one. He also said their differences have affected their working relationship. The two will face each other in the next executive elections in the position of presidency.

Pandor said if what he is reading in the papers is true the behavior of the two is uncalled for and unprofessional. He said the both are at fault and will face the wrath of the law after investigations have been concluded. He said he was surprised to learn through the media that the two had problems. "We have been working with them and we never knew they had personal differences, when they differed with opinions we though it was just normal difference,' he said. He wondered why Gilbert had to write a letter to affiliates to denounce his executive committee. "Why did he not talk to us if he had a problem with us," Pandor asked. Pandor could not confirm whether there is a problem or not at the BRU but said what the two have done shows something is not right. Pandor also wondered if Gilbert wanted to run the union alone. In the letter that Gilbert wrote to affiliates he explained that he finds himself compelled to stand for the elections as he does not understand the motives of certain people with in the executive committee to take the game to the next level.
