Botswana swimming sensation, Naomi Ruele is hard pressed to attain the Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualification through A standard with the July 3 deadline looming. The swimmer clocked 26:07 seconds in the 50-metre freestyle, which is a B standard qualifying time.

However, for her to ensure automatic qualification, she has to attain the A standard meaning she has to clock 25:28.

Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufho told a press conference yesterday that Ruele has a deadline of July 3 to improve her time. “We trust that the swimmer stands a good chance of getting herself an A standard qualification. The A standard would mean she has automatic qualification.  In that category, there are only 900 slots.  She just has to work extra hard,” he said.
