Rousing welcome for Zebras

The fans, clad in national team colours, danced and chanted as they gave the Zebras a warm welcome despite exiting the tournament in the first round.
The national team lost their three Group D matches to Ghana (1-0), a record equalling 6-1 defeat to Guinea and 2-1 against Mali in their last group encounter.Nonetheless, the first time AFCON qualifiers were received with both hands as thousands of Batswana went on to throng the UB Stadium on Friday afternoon. They watched as the Zebras made a sentimental lap around the university facility waving hands at their fans. Neo Makgetho (22) who attended the UB homecoming ceremony said she was proud of the team. "I'm really proud of the Zebras; they did fairly well considering that they went into the AFCON with little international experience. None of our players is based in Europe, but we played against guys who play for some of the world's biggest clubs like Barcelona and the difference was not that huge," an elated Makgetho said.
