Rollers' misery continues

The woes of Township Rollers' continued on Sunday when they were humiliated 3-0 by Santos in a Mascom Premier League game at the National Stadium. Rollers are yet to win a game since beating log leaders, ECCO City Greens by the same margin in Molepolole early this year. They were held to identical 1-1 draws by Nico United and Notwane before losing 2-0 to BMC after which they fired Zimbabwean coach Madinda Ndlovu last week.

Since the Coca-Cola saga in which they were booted out after refusing to replay their semi-final game against BDF XI, Rollers have never been consistent. Off the pitch, the Gaborone giants have been involved in a number of disputes with the Botswana Football Association (BFA). After the heavy loss to Santos on Sunday, newly-appointed Rollers' coach, Daniel 'Chicco' Nare now face the daunting task of trying to make his players focused at this crucial time in the campaign. Against the fast rising Gabane minnows, it was clear Rollers would find it tough as they faced a side that has recovered from first a round slump after roping in experienced players. Most of the time, Rollers' players chased their shadows during the match. Their play lacked cohesion and direction as compared to Santos'. The Gaborone giants were outplayed in the midfield where their former player, Patrick Mathaba, was instrumental. He combined well with Zebras' midfielder, Vincent Phiri. Both teams welcomed back their national team players from the Belgian trip but Santos were the first to launch an attack. With striker Onalethata Tshekiso starting on the bench, Rollers found the going tough in front of goal as Edwin Kamwimba was bottled up by Pius Kolagano and Talinda Nyathi.

Sekhana 'Nandos' Koko became a constant threat to his former Santos' teammates in the first half with his pace and skill. He gave Rollers something to cheer about but he could not score. Santos' goalkeeper Thabo Ntsiapane made a brilliant save from Shono Bogatsu's stunning effort when he parried the ball over the bar.
