SELEBI-PHIKWE: Eastern Military Garrison (EMG) Gunners has suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of UB Rhinos during a hotly-contested match that was played at the Cricket Club over the weekend. Gunners were beaten 27-13 in their own turf.

The hosts have never beaten Rhinos in the Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) league. Last season Rhinos hammered Gunners at the last minute to deny them to reach the semi-finals and relegate them to the third position. The match was so tense that players even exchanged some blows. At the end of the first half, Rhinos were leading 20-0. The visitors drew blood a few seconds after the referee started the game. Gunners tried hard toscore but the Rhinos' defence was able to keep them at bay. At the beginning of the second half, the hosts seemed to have got the instructions of their coach, Neal Gouws right as they began the half on a high pace. It was through the foot of Keatametse Mapodise who coverted a penalty into a goal that saw some Gunners' supporters cheering. Gouws introduced Modesto Mazambe to replace Baleseng Lifi who seemed to be limping. The substitution seemed to change the game as the players seemed to be reacting to instructions and encouraging words from the technical bench.

Gunners also managed to get another penalty that was scored by Dalven Sofeleng. Gunners' former player who has now joined Rhinos, Condrad Ntsebe, did not show any mercy towards his former side as he scored a penalty for his side. The two sides kept on complaining about the referee as they felt that he was not taking good decisions. Such decisions nearly saw the game being called off. Gunners also suffered a blow with three minutes remaining before the end of the game when the team captain Kagiso Ditsebe and Mapodise were red carded.
