Rugby side, UB Rhinos say it is critical for land to be availed to sports clubs to build facilities and grow their profile.

Rhinos' manager, Lesedi Keekae said there are individuals and companies interested in putting money in sports only to be discouraged when they realise clubs do not have land or property.

Keekae told a press briefing in Gaborone on Wednesday that Rhinos have been struggling because it does not have its own ground. "We thank the University of Botswana sports office for allowing us to use the UB football pitch," he said. He added that due to the few number of rugby clubs in Gaborone, UB Rhinos is overwhelmed with players seeking to join the club. There are only three clubs in Gaborone - Rhinos, BDF Cheetahs and Gaborone Hogs. Keekae said his club has been forced to form feeder clubs to accommodate the high number of players. "This in turn led to the formation of the White Rhinos as well as the Under-19 side," he explained. The UB Rhinos club, a break away from Gaborone Hogs was formed in 1997 while the women's side was formed in 2003. The club has two coaches.
