Reikeletseng condemns media bashing, racism

Sports journalists, under siege from unrelenting attacks from certain quarters, were relieved last night when they received the backing of Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng.

Speaking at the BNSC Ordinary General Meeting in Gaborone, Reikeletseng acknowledged the critical role the media plays. He noted with concern the tendency by some BNSC affiliates to bash sports journalists.

“There is worrisome tendency by some of us to share information with media and when the information shared works to our disadvantage, we then take the stage to bash and criticise the media for misquoting us, misunderstanding us and for interfering in our business,” Reikeletseng said.  He reminded affiliates of the need to build stronger ties with the media and avail accurate information to avoid clashes. He warned that if affiliates do not conduct their affairs professionally, the media will always be there to report what happens. Reikeletseng condemned what he termed a growing tendency of internal strife of the worst proportion in the affiliates with a large mix of Batswana and foreign nationals.
