Regional Rugby School Sides Face-Off

A lot will be at stake this afternoon when the North and South select sides square-off at the BISA National Schools Rugby Championships finals for boys and girls at Wharic Park in Gaborone.

As the curtain comes down on the championships, junior national team selectors will watch the North versus South clash in an effort to identify players for next year's Africa Youth Rugby Championships to be hosted in Gaborone in May. The youngsters will be out to impress because they are aware that outstanding performances in today's finals could translate to national team selection.

Southern  teams dominated in the group stages in the boys competition and look poised to do well in the battle of the regions. Gaborone's Makhubu were first to book a quarterfinal berth after winning all their Pool C games.The 12 participating teams were placed in three groups of four teams each.  Makhubu were unstoppable, beating Ikageng 31-5 in their opening game before whipping G-West 26-0. They then beat Shangano to progress to the quarterfinals. Jwaneng's Morama did fairly well in Pool A after humiliating Lebogang 34-0 and playing two goalless draws against Gabane and Radikolo.
