Reassess sports strategy - UK official

FRANCISTOWN: Visiting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kings Foundation from United Kingdom (UK), Richard Holmes, has advised Botswana to make sports accessible and enjoyable to the children.

He said by so doing the country would produce mature and responsible citizens.
Holmes said that like any other country in Africa, Botswana was still lagging behind in sports development programmes, urging the nation to reassess its strategy if it is to make any significant breakthrough. The CEO was here on a three-day sports development camp at Francistown's Clifton Private School. The fun-packed camp, which ended on Wednesday, was the first camp of its kind in the city and attracted 120 young enthusiasts. Holmes explained that such camps are organised for three reasons. "These camps give children great exposure through sports and grow in confidence, develop coaches and volunteers in running programmes by providing paid work and raise funds for outreach programmes," he added.

During the sessions, children had ample opportunity to try out new skills and develop at their own paces. Holmes said during such camps, children are taken through tactile equipment that enables them to learn core life-long skills.
