Rampant Chiefs March On

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Mochudi Centre Chiefs continued with their march towards a first ever premiership title with a 3-1 demolition of Nico United before a huge crowd at the Selebi-Phikwe Stadium on Saturday.

The win keeps Chiefs at the top of the log and maintains their unbeaten record while Nico stays put at the basement. Even though Chiefs walked away with maximum points, they were a lacklustre display and benefited from Nico goalkeeper, Chrispen Nyamutambo's blunders. The usually dependable Nyamutambo was a ball of nerves and let in three goals at his near post. The game took off at a blistering pace with Nico's Master Masitara opening the score after a brilliant solo move in the fourth minute. Masitara turned Gobonyeone 'Shoes' Selefa, outpaced two defenders before poking the ball past a drawn out Noah Maposa in Chiefs' goal.

In the seventh minute, Jerome Ramatlhakwana worked his way into the Majombolo area, and his resultant shot was almost turned in by a Nico defender. As action swung from end to end, Eric Molebatsi should have given Nico the lead in the ninth minute but he shot tamely at Maposa. Chiefs equalised in stunning fashion two minutes later. After a neat exchange of passes, captain Pontsho Moloi released Elijah Phiriepa whose blistering shot gave Nyamutambo no chance.
