Zebras top marksman, Jerome 'JJ' Ramatlhakwana has been nominated for the Confederation on African Football (CAF) 2011 African Player of the Year award, reserved for players in domestic Africa leagues.

The 'Big Animal' was named among the 10 nominees for the award in Ghanaian capital Accra on Wednesday. Ramatlhakwana helped the Zebras qualify for their first ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals with his five goals. The nomination completes a fairy tale run for the former Mochudi Centre Chiefs striker who has seen more national team action than club football in the past two seasons.

The 26-year-old has been out of favour at his Absa Premier League club, Cape Town Santos where he is currently not even registered with the PSL. This however did not overshadow his exploits in national colours, as his performance has not gone unnoticed by the continental body, making him the only nominee based in Southern Africa. CAF, through its website, said the list was compiled through a vigorous exercise by its technical, football and media committees taking into account the performance of the player for his national team and club from January to November, 2011. Ramatlhakwana is expected to once again lead the Zebras' attack when they play Nigeria's Super Eagles in a friendly tomorrow.
