Rain dashes Botswana's cricket hopes

Botswana's hopes of cruising to the next stage of the Pepsi Division Six-Cricket World Cup qualifiers were dashed on Tuesday after their game against Malaysia was washed out by rain.

The downpour forced the umpire to call the game off and award the two sides a point each. After losing to Norway and the hosts Singapore in the opening matches of the qualifiers, Botswana needed to win its remaining three games in the qualifiers to book a place in Division Five. However, the forced draw against Malaysia spoiled everything and Botswana's win against Bahrain yesterday was too little too late. This was Botswana's first win in the qualifiers.

Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) president, Girish Ramakrishna admitted that their hopes for qualification are slim as countries above Botswana have high average scores.
