The sport rehabilitation programme in prisons initiated by former boxer, Thuso 'Scud' Khubamang is starting to pay dividends. Some products from the programme are now living a crime-free life through involvement in sport.

An optimistic Khubamang said he always believed the programme would be a success and a great benefit to the convicts despite the difficulties he faced at the initial stages. He was speaking at the end of a tour of the First Offenders Prison in the Village on Saturday where he took some time to introduce volleyball to the convicts. He said there are already four ex-convicts involved in the programme. "Some of them are now active in boxing. They will join us as we embark on road shows in the southern region of the country. We hope the testimonies they give will help other convicts to take note of the programme and re-build their lives so they can have a better future once out of prison," he said.

On Saturday, Khubamang invited former president of the Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF), Tsoseletso Magang to introduce volleyball to the convicts and to give a motivational talk. The convicts were taught some dee-jaying skills by the tour DJ who provided entertainment at the event. In the end, there was a free sparring session by those who have enrolled in boxing lessons as part of preparations for the upcoming road show. Khubamang started the rehabilitation programme last year through his company, Scud Missile Promotions after getting inspiration from the United States where he was once based as a professional boxer. Last year, he completed a successful road show in the northern region prisons and soon he will embark on another road show in the south.
