Preparations for the second edition of the Mr Ironman Bodybuilding and Mr Strongest Ironman contests to be held in Gaborone on September 3 are gaining momentum. This comes after more sponsors came on board to support the annual event.

One of the organisers, Champion Mbewe said the show, which will be held at the Airport Junction has seen the arrival of broadcast partners, Btv and Duma FM as well as Dirang Car Rental, who will sponsor the Men’s Physique category. He said thus far, they have managed to get sponsors for all the categories, which is a sign of growth.

At least 21 participants have entered the Strongestman Botswana Competition while 11 are in the race for the Senior Men Bodybuilding show. Thirteen are in the Junior Men’s category while the Men’s Physique section has eight, but Mbewe said they expect the numbers to grow. Seven women have entered the Ms Curvaceous contest. The first show will be at Airport Junction where there will be a truck pulling contest, squats and other challenging workouts, Mbewe said. The Strongest Ironman will walk away with P15,000 while the runner-up gets P10,000 and P5,000 is reserved for number three.  The Strongest Ironman will be in the afternoon and is sponsored by Scania and Airport Junction.  “In the evening, we will have (an) Ironman bodybuilding show at Cresta Lodge. We are going to have two line-ups; for seniors and juniors, and also we will have the Ms Curvaceous category where we expect plus-size women to take part, Pick ‘n Pay have sponsored with trophies and medals,” Mbewe said. The winners in the all-men’s bodybuilding contests (senior and junior) will walk away with P5,000 each, P3,000 for runners-up and P2,000 for third place.
