The Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) will have to register with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) if the state broadcaster, Botswana Television (Btv) is to screen next month’s awards.

The PPADB rejected the Department of Broadcasting Services’ (DBS) request for a waiver to exempt BNSC from the tendering process. Btv is a unit under the DBS, and the state television has been the sole broadcaster of the BNSC awards for years.

PPADB announced on Monday that the DBS had requested for a waiver to exempt BNSC from contractor registration with PPADB under media services with regards to the provision of BNSC broadcast rights for the BNSC annual sports awards. The PPADB board rejected the request.  PPADB public relations and education manager, Charles Keikotlhae told Mmegi Sport that the decision means BNSC should register with PPADB.  “Any entity wishing to conduct business with government, needs to be registered save for those trading at a micro procurement level whose ceiling is currently P50,000 as micro procurement has been exempted from the registration requirement,” he said.
