Poor turn-out at Glenn Valley boxing tourney

There was poor boxer turnout at Saturday's seventh Inter-club qualifier tournament for the Keone Mooka Mageu National Championships at Glenn Valley.

The seventh qualifier out of 17 drew a total of 70 local boxers, 26 less than the sixth round of qualifiers a fortnight ago.

Despite the reduced numbers, the boxers displayed some exciting boxing technique with DTCB's Mooketsi Keakantse beating his Gantsi opponent, Lawrence Motshabi in the 49 kilograms category 3-0. In the other 49 kilograms bout, Kutlwano Osaketse also beat Maatla Mosime of BMC on a similar score line. In one of the most exciting bouts, Onkarabile Mothibedi of BMC and Francistown's Phenyo Mapitse played a closely contested match that ended 11-11. The judges eventually gave the nod to Motsebe. In the 52 kilograms category, David Gakewaope of SSKB had an easy one over Dimpho Ramokoyo, beating him 15-4. Mooketsi Keaotshaba emerged victorious in a bout against Tefo Rammupudu.
