Lack of monitoring and control in the set up of school sport has been identified as a loophole that saw the budget balloon as the government was forced to pay teachers P32 million for their participation in the 2019 ball games.

The joint task team on school sport chairperson, Tapiwa Masunga told Mmegi Sport her team established that there was no control of how many teachers could be involved in sport. She said as such, the bill went up.

“There was no monitoring and control and that created loopholes in the system that led to an increase in teachers’ allowances. The payment of those allowances was a big challenge,” she said.
