Police V Dominate Basketball Squad

Reigning women's basketball champions Police V dominated the provisional national team that is preparing for next month's Afro Basket qualifiers to be staged in Maputo, Mozambique.

The 15-member squads for both men and women were announced on Saturday shortly after the matches against All Stars select sides were postponed to next week owing to bad weather. Botswana Basketball Association (BAA) had organised a match between the national team and a team picked from local clubs.

Despite the cancellation due to heavy rains, the technical team trimmed their squads from 21 to 15. Police V will supply 10 players to the national cause for the Afro Basket, comfortably more than any side. The police side will be represented by seven players from their 2012 championship-winning team while three were drafted into the men's side. The club's key players during the league campaign Sesupo Balosi, Tatenda Manuel, Kesaolope Motswagole and Kemmonye Madikwe, who all featured in the final against former champions BDF V, made it into the squad. However, despite making it, Madikwe is struggling with an injury she picked during training on Friday and the coaches will be hoping for a quick recovery. Her teammates Tebogo Ndlovu, Kelebogile Thawabi and Endie Banyaditse also made the cut.
