PLC Dismisses Zebras' Game

The Premier League Committee (PLC) has said it will not postpone its programme this weekend because of the Zebras' international friendly match with Namibia. The PLC has said the match to mark Namibia's independence celebrations is useless.

The Zebras are scheduled to leave Gaborone on Wednesday for the clash in Keetmanshoop, a town located 460km outside the Namibian capital Windhoek.

The PLC has come out strongly saying that clubs should not release their players for the Namibian trip because it is insignificant. The game falls out of the FIFA calendar and this means clubs cannot be forced to release players. PLC chairman Mike Molefe told Monitor Sport on Friday night at the Molepolole Sports Stadium that they were surprised to hear on national television that the Zebras are scheduled to play Namibia. "We have not been informed properly. Having said that, it does not serve any purpose for the Zebras to travel there when the league is at this crucial stage. We are faced with a shortage of stadiums and our programme is behind schedule and there is no way we can accommodate the Zebras' trip," he said.
