Pirates Lift Telkom Cup

MAFIKENG: Thousands of Batswana crossed into South Africa on Saturday to witness the famous Telkom Charity Cup, which was played at the nearby Mmabatho Stadium.

They did not return home disappointed after watching three entertaining games, which were played under an electrifying atmosphere.

Football lovers came from all corners and packed the stadium to the rafters. In the opening semi-final, Orlando Pirates squandered a 2-0 lead and let Platinum Stars score two second half goals to force the game into penalties. Teko Modise and Excellent Walaza were on the score-sheet for the Buccaneers, while substitute Simba Marumo scored a brace for the North-West side. But Pirates progressed through to the final with a 4-2 win with goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa saving one penalty.
