Pirates get Al Ahly, Zamalek in Champions League

The draw for the group stages of the Champions League took place in Cairo yesterday.

The eight teams were seeded as follows:Esperance (Tunisia) and seven-time winners Al Ahly (Egypt) were seeded at level I, with one each in group A and B.AC Leopards (Congo) and CotonSport (Cameroon) were seeded at level II, with one in each group.

Finally, five-time winners Zamalek (Egypt), Sewe Sport (Ivory Coast), Orlando Pirates (South Africa) and Recreativo do Libolo (Angola) were level III seeds, placed into Group A, B, A, B as they were drawn.The teams in each group will play each other home and away in a round-robin format, with the top two teams going through to the semi-finals. The prize money for the competition is $1,500,000 for the winners, $1,000,000 for second place, $700,000 each for third and fourth place. Third place in groups get $500,000 each, fourth in group get $400,000 each.
