SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Med Rescue First Division North League goes to the wire this weekend when favourites Great North Tigers take on Sua Flamingoes as their closest challengers, Boteti Young Fighters confront Mahalapye Hotspurs.

A win for police-dominated GNT will definitely clinch the title but any slip-up will be disastrous if Boteti beat Spurs. GNT leads the pack with 42 points followed by Boteti with 41 points. If both sides win their weekend games, they must play each other because GNT were awarded free points when Orapa Bucs fielded an ineligible player against them. Regulations say a club that gets free points must win the league by a clear three points to avoid meeting the runner-up in a play-off to decide the champion. Whoever emerges tops between GNT and Boteti in the competition gets an automatic ticket to the Mascom Premier League as the runners-up head to the promotional play-offs. Therefore, for GNT to win the league and gain promotion, they will have to beat Flamingoes and hope that Boteti lose against Hotspurs.

Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, GNT coach Seth Moleofhi said his team is unstoppable. "There is nothing that is going to stop my team from winning the league. We are well prepared and ready for the challenge. Even though I will not have my central defender due to bookings, we remain unstoppable," he said. He said he has confidence in his team and he will beat Boteti even if they meet in the deciding game. Last season, GNT challenged for top honours but faltered badly at the last hurdle, failing even to make it to the promotional play-offs. This is despite an impressive neck to neck race with TAFIC that ended on the last day of the contest.
