Phikwe rugby side, Eastern Military Garrison (EMG) Gunners on Saturday snatched a 14-7 victory over White Rhinos during the Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) match that was played on Saturday at Selebi-Phikwe stadium.

The game could have gone either as the visiting side put up a brave fight. Rhinos started the match without showing any respect to Gunners as they launched attack from the first whistle. Gunners had a bone to pick against Rhinos having lost to the side in the first round in Gaborone. Gunners were the first to draw blood through Kholani Nsupeng who scored an easy try. The score did not shake Rhinos players as they took the fight back to Gunners and they were rewarded towards the end of the first half and that saw the two sides going for break with a seven all goal line. Gunners continued to lose possession during critical moments of their attack. They also had many knock balls that they failed to utilise. The army side was also fortunate because their backline was doing a superb job stopping Rhinos forwards in their tracks.

From the half time break, Rhinos played with fire in their belly. Gunners introduced Joseph Letea, Elijah Radihepi and Wamorena Monyatsi to try and contain the marauding Rhinos. After a long struggle, Gunners were able to extend the lead; Prince Mapodisi scoring a try. Speaking after the game, Rhinos coach, Mooketsi Ramakele said his side did not play well because they were missing some of their players. He noted that three of their fly backs did not come for the match. "We created many chances but finishing was a problem. We outplayed Gunners and it is unfortunate that we lost. If we win the next three matches, we will be able to make it to the semi-finals," said Ramakele. Gunners coach, Tosca Segaise said his side did not have a good match and he did not know what could be lacking in the team. He noted that in some of the matches, Gunners play good rugby, but in other matches like the weekend game, they did not come to the party.
